Texas Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association

New Farmers Workshop

November 14, 2009
9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Eden’s Organic Garden Center/Farm/CSA
Balch Springs TX
Registration Fee $25.00

Speaking on renewable energy micro systems, Herb Perkins, will elaborate on the creation of a low cost solar/wind power system for purposes of running an irrigation system at the farm in a location where electricity is not available (or desired). The normal costs of paying for power and city water, or electric to power a well pump, can cut into a small farm’s bottom line quickly, especially at start up phases. The open program information and renew/reuse/recycle approach to this system should appeal to start up farmers looking to be “off the grid” with their farms at a time when the budget is tightest. The trials and tribulations will be discussed along with future plans for the expansion of the system. Other topics on soil building will be discussed.
