Attorney and organic farmer Judith McGeary will present the Austin College 2010 Will Mann Richardson lecture at 11 a.m. on April 8 in Hoxie Thompson Auditorium of Sherman Hall. The lecture, “Reductionism vs. Holism: Government Regulation of Farming and Food,” is free and open to the public.

According to the speaker, she will discuss “the paradigms of industrial agriculture versus sustainable agriculture, and the effects on the environment, rural economies, and human health.” In particular, she will address food safety legislation and animal identification programs, which she said will highlight the issues created when government regulation does not distinguish between the two types of agriculture.
