Join us for two workshops and lunch! 

Justin Duncan, Sustainable Agriculture Specialist with the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT), will lead both workshops. The first workshop addresses the role of minerals in healthy soil, and the second will talk about the benefits of many common and no-so common herbs. Lunch is included in the cost. 


Come for both workshops or choose either the Remineralization workshop in the morning or the afternoon Herbs for Health in the afternoon. Please note the different registration options. 


Workshop 1:

9:30 AM - 11:00 AM

Location: AGC room 116

Soil Remineralization: Justin will speak about what  individual minerals do for organisms, discuss why they are not present in sufficient quantities in agricultural soils and on restoring the full spectrum of minerals back to the soil.


Farm Fresh Lunch!

A farm lunch, made with ingredients from NTCC's Research Farm and other local farms, will be provided by the NTCC AG Club. Lunch will be served from 11:15am to 12:20pm and is included in the price of admission.

Facility Tour:

12:30 PM - 1:00 PM

Location: Foyer

The only completely self-sustainable Agricultural Facility in the state of Texas and one of only four in the U.S.


Workshop 2:

1:10 PM - 2:40 PM

Location AGC room 116

Herbs for health: This talk will discuss scientific research using herbs and other plants.  Justin will cover common herbs, fruits and vegetables that you will find in your garden, and some not so common ones that could be beneficial. The workshop will also have a herb-walk that includes herbs in the greenhouse.

Presenter's BioJustin has a BS in Agronomy from Prairie View A&M University, an 1890 Land Grant Institution, and an MS in Plant Breeding from Texas A&M University. He’s spent years figuring out the nuts-and-bolts of successful organic farming in the humid South, concentrating mainly on sweet potatoes, strawberries, niche market ethnic crops and drought mitigation techniques. He formerly served as the Houston region director of the Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and has strong rapport with organic farmers in Eastern Texas. He now works with the National Center for Appropriate Technology as a Sustainable Agriculture Specialist where he helps farmers around the country with their crop and pest issues and develops publications on sustainable agriculture topics.
